Mount Carmel College is a premier institution for women’s education in Bangalore, India. Established in 1948. Mount Carmel has always been the forerunner of constructive changes in academics to help students enrich their knowledge and enhance their skills to meet the challenges of a rapidly evolving world. Earlier Affiliated to Mysore University later it became affiliated of Bangalore University in 1964. MCC is a minority institution run primarily for Catholic Students, it opens its doors to those of all castes and creeds. It takes its inspiration from the person and teaching of Jesus Christ, Universal Master, and Model of Education. The college was granted the autonomy status in 2005, affiliated to Bangalore University. Mount Carmel was re-accredited with an A+ by NAAC in 2006. It is selected by UGC under the scheme, College with Potential for Excellence in 2006. The college was rewarded A grade by NAAC in its 2nd round of re-accreditation in 2012.
The College offers UG and PG Courses in Commerce and Management, Humanities, Science, Applied Science and Design. The student strength of the college in 1944 was 274; today it has the strength of over 5,500 students pursuing both Under Graduate and Post Graduate Programmes. Management Studies (MCIM) Institute was established in 1992, with a view to providing women students an opportunity to pursue Management Education. The College has well-established research facilities, laboratories and facilitates research culture both among staff and students. The Commerce Department has been recognized as a Research center by Bangalore University in 2006. Further IGNOU has recognized many Departments as Research Centers in the year 2010 - 11. The College is registered with the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research and is recognized as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government Of India in the year 2011.
Under the UG stream, the college offers ten Programmes in the Faculty of Arts, eighteen in the Faculty of Science and four in the Faculty of Commerce and Management. The number of PG programmes has increased from three under the affiliated system to thirteen under the autonomous system. The College through the Centre Extend Education provides skill-based credit programs. In its 6 decades of history, Mount Carmel College has worked successfully at its primary objective of women empowerment through education and it continues to be committed to the same.
The Placement Cell of Mount Carmel College (autonomous) has been training students and providing them with opportunities to get placed in leading MNC, Banks, educational institutes, biotech firm's etc. since the year 2002. Students from all disciplines undergo career counseling by a counselor throughout the year. The placement cell conducts various activities and workshops such as resume writing, interview skills, GD, aptitude tests and mock interviews for the students. The students attend pre-placement talks organized by the companies which followed by tests and interviews in the college campus.
Apart from this, the students are provided with opportunities for internships, part-time jobs, and CA Article ships. The MCA students are facilitated to get projects in companies like Fidelity, HP, and GSK & many more. The placement officers attend the placement coordinators' meet which is held by leading companies for selected colleges every year. There is a constant interface between the alumni placed in the companies and the outgoing students of each year which enables the placement cell to obtain a current and valuable insight into the industry and facilitate the students with the best opportunities. The Placement Cell is dedicated to giving students an opportunity to excel in their field of career. It also provides skill-based programs that will give students a practical edge in the real world. From just placing students to actively playing a role in grooming a student to be Corporate ready, the placement cell activities have grown over the years. Training programs are designed to sharpen basic business skills and improve general knowledge. Targeted courses are charted to enhance employability skills.
